Victor Borge & Dean Martin – Musical Phonetic Punctuation

The Great Dane adapts his classic comedy routine to music. Every time I watch this I laugh myself to tears! This is already posted but this is a much clearer copy. Enjoy!
Video Rating: 4 / 5

Victor has just finished conducting at one of his 80th birthday concerts and the crowd reaction was so good that the violinist, Anton Kontra, suggests an encore. No encore was planned but Monti’s Czardas, which Victor had heard before BUT HAD NEVER PLAYED, is suggested. Nevertheless, the two go at it and put on quite a show. Watch Victor’s facial expressions in the 2nd half as his partner escalates the action.

So at school we were watching this for language arts, and this was on a big screen, and at the end, you know how related videos show up at the end on the screen? Ya well, at the end for related videos, there was big set of boobs on the screen. It was really funny tho, my class’s reaction was priceless. All the girls were either ‘OMG! Ewww!!!’ or ‘Who cares, they’re just boobs, we have them too you know’ and then all the guys were like ‘Oh my God….boobs!’ and they just kept staring. Really fun

Hollywood could learn a thing or two by watching this. You don’t need to be racist sexist or foul mouthed to be funny. I wish i was alive to see all these greats.

  23. ts3011ISRL says:

this was kinda hommage to the style of szymanowski if you know him – like the paraphrase he made on the 24 caprice by paganini were the piano plays something completely different from the violin but it still goes together perfectly… (and of course the massive use of dissonance)
    BRAVE, Mr. Borge!!!

  24. smzig says:

When you can play a piano and make music as naturally as it is to speak… that’s true talent.

  25. Alvinacid says:

    WHAAOOOOT
that was wow and what mixed together.
    ..I tolly just improvised that

  26. darzil007 says:

how can body dislike this ,the man was pure genius and accomplished musician..

  27. ameagher2 says:

No, YOU HAVE INTRODUCED. To continue … a job well done to you sir,and after Victor, try, The Music of Laurel and Hardy – it works with the kids as well. After that,p’haps Larry Addler – not as funny but you could describe why he left the USA in the fiftys because of his political beliefs. I’m ranting, sorry.Keep up the good work mam – awesome – and worthwhile.

  28. raportzmiastaN says:

Yeah, sure. But I completely unwillingly find it very similar to Monti’s ‘Csardas’.

  29. bobadybooX says:

    haha lots of humour!!

  30. MrDrumsdrumsdrums says:

Amazing! Classical purists, dont be alarmed, they are improvising over a well known piece. very common in most other styles of music;)

  31. Eric Schmidt says:

I saw him live and never laughed so hard in my life. And that’s even after knowing all his routines by heart.

  32. TheWIBoiler says:

It’s clear at around the 2 minute mark the audience is starting to get some idea about what’s really going on. I just hope they appreciated the skill it took for the two of them to do this together. It’s not all Victor or all Anton; it’s the synergy of two masters making a (partly) new piece on the fly.

  33. 1131sky says:

    This what music should be….

  34. jdebruynviolin says:

The violinist was playing it from memory but with heavy embellishment (standard practice for that piece) and the pianist (Victor Borge) had heard it but didn’t know it.
