I am the one who uploaded these 2 parts of several clips.
Victor Borge was born in 1909 so in 1996 he would have been 87.
Mugge62(Now 65) from Denmark
Thank you to whoever posted this clip. It’s neat hearing Victor speak his native language. Thankfully, I’d seen most of these routines in English, so I could follow for the most part. By the way, how old was he here? 90?? That’s how he looks to me.
We do it in Finland also
I remember seeing this show on TV as a kid. Even now, years later, I’m still mesmerized. He was a true genius.
It has little to do with being Danish or not; a slightly slower, louder applause is a common applause when waiting for something, e.g. an encore or for the next artist to go on stage. It’s this way in several countries in the world, not just Denmark. The slow handclap just means “we’re waiting [for something]”; the faster applause that often precedes it is the one that expresses enjoyment.
I wish I could understand what he’s saying. Might it be possible for someone to subtitle this?

Awesome hearing this in his native tongue! But part of his personal charm for me was his accent and the whole “it’s your language I’m just trying to use it, that’s all” concept when speaking English. 🙂 Thanks for this!
hvor jeg dog savner det gamle DR1 logo
This man was fantastic ! Thanks for Him.
I’m canadian and we also clap in unisson, this call for an”encore”
I’m so grateful for YouTube.
I thougt that way of clapping, -and showing grattitude, was universal !!
Its a danish thing..we do that all the time. We’re very organised ;P
Usually that’s for an encore
No Legatosans.
This clapping is the way the Danish audiences honour the artist by clapping harder and slower.
Has nothing to do with recording technology….I should know. I am Danish.

i fully believe it – just read that page, feel the pain !! Just check the link out !!
More info about the jewish sufferings also available here: /watch?v=p1G-DBpaPyM
-and by the way… the female interviewer is so annoying. Her “style” is almost like an cold interrogator rather than a curious partner in conversation. Pityful !
Mr. Borge was so wise…He talks true wisdom and with insight. As a Jew and an Dane he always were a very decent person with great great talent. One can learn a lot of listening to him.
Wonderful.
He taught me that you could make music and have humor at the same time. Before I discovered him, learning piano was just a chore, afterwards, it was an opportunity. Thanks Mr. Borge, you still remind us to dream, to laugh and to play
Fantastic insight on Victor Borge’s background.
He was one of my favorite entertainers for 40 + years.
His humanity shines so clearly through his playing. So gentle, so loving it seems.
Thx for uploading. Very nice to hear about his life. To call him a Holocaust survivor is pushing it. Im sure Victor would not like that term either.
Simply incredible. More than 3 hours, and all too short.
If my piano teacher didnt say “hey u look tired today why dont we just kick back pull up some youtube videos on my phone” I would have never have learned about this marvelous musician/comedian Victor Borge Rest in peace Victor you left us a lifetime of comedy and music
Until today, I never thought to make the connection between VB and his jewish history. I knew he Jewish; I knew he was Danish; I knew he came to this country. Didn’t realize the circumstances. As much as I’ve always loved and respected this man, I love him all the more, now. Granted, he was “one of the lucky ones” not only got out alive, but was able to go back to visit his mother (clandestinely) in Denmark. Wonderful man! Odd to see him so serious, though. Good to see that side of him, too.
This makes you wonder how someone exposed to such a horrible event can come out of it and make others laugh and enjoy his performance. Kids nowadays should see something of Victor and films of other people that survived. Never forget them no matter what schools and colleges try to jam in our kids’ heads.
My grandfathers family had problem.
i AGREE TOTALLY!!!!! I just listened to him this morning and laughed soooo hard……..!!!!! Thank you a thousand times for this!!!!!
No but there are Turkish, Russian and Hungarian DNA samples. They had no semitic cell in their blood. If you call someone who’s against these people ”anti-semite”, then you’re retarded because science shows they’re not. anti-zionism is not evil, it’s the most logical and rational thing. Unless you like war, death, famine, and the degeneration of society, be my guest. But I’ll shoot you, if I have the chance.
