Victor Borge appears on “I’ve Got a Secret” (December 12th, 1966) with host Steve Allen and panelists Betsy Palmer, Bill Cullen, Bess Myerson, and Henry Morgan. His secret is “I’m going to play a song by touching 10 pretty girls”, which is about as risqué as Goodson-Todman ever got in that era. He does indeed end up playing “Dark Eyes” on a “Peopleodeon” made up of ten pretty girls. The routine is a bit lame (IGAS was close to the end of its life here) but Victor Borge is always a hoot, so here it is. The “Peopleodeon” was invented by electronic music pioneers Ted Pandel and Bruce Haack, who are briefly introduced at the end.

He not only loved his piano – he was in love with his piano – you can hear that. He was a real Great Dane!

  3. Jan Styr Lehdenfeldt says:

I dearly love Victor Borge. I am more used to watching his comedy routines, but he is an amazing pianist. People will still be watching him 100 years from now, because everything he performs is timeless.

I saw this show on TV when I was a kid with Swedish subtitles. I loved it then, and I love it now 🙂 Such a beautiful performance and a lovely song! He really was one of a kind 🙂

He is greatly missed here in Australia. I was indeed very fortunate to see him in three different countries in my lifetime and his shows were always sold out. A very unique and remarkable man . Gone but not forgotten

    Hi Steve!

Thanks for commenting. Borge is playing 12 bits of Danish tunes.

As a Dane I know them all by heart but cannot remember all the titles… only 8 or 9 of them pops up. However: the last one is “I Danmark er jeg født” (In Denmark I am born) and the lyrics to this are written by the world famous Hans Christian Andersen. Borge used to play these 12 small bits all over the globe as a gesture to his native country.

All my best wishes, Mugge62 (63 now)

    Hi Baz!

Glad you like it. Victor Borge used for many years to play these Danish various melodies (wellknown by all Danes over a certain age) all over the World.

He never forgot his native country – nor his native language.
I miss him very much, but thanks to YouTube I can send him good thoughts by watching the large amount of small videos uploaded by his many fans.

Greetings to UK from Mugge62 (63 yesterday)

Victor Borge was much loved here in UK. Hmmm…. and I never thought I’d see him play something “straight”… but thanks to this little video, I did !!

Hej Rasmus. Hvor har du ret.
    Glad hilsen … Også til MadsogMick92 +

    Greetings to keepthemusicplaying0 as well.
